Military missions: The anti-Daesh partnership between the Italian armed forces and the Iraqi security forces is consolidated in Iraq

The Alpini of the Task Force Praesidium in the last few days they conducted the first advanced training course at Mountain Warfare in favor of Counter Terrorism Service (CTS). As part of the training activities carried out by the Italian Task Force at the Mosul Dam, seven non-commissioned officers of the CTS Iraqi Special Forces have completed the advanced stage of climbing training in operational set-up acquiring the necessary elements to train their own personnel.

The course

The course, born from a specific request, follows the first training phase which had allowed the training of three operational detachments. Three weeks of intense training on the natural climbing wall built by the 3rd Alpine Regiment last September, in an area adjacent to the Dam. A partnership between Alpine troops and CTS that consolidates the professional relationships that see the two units operate in an integrated way every day for the safety of the Dam and the Italian and foreign personnel who work there.

The training offer

As part of the cooperation and support program for all components of the Iraqi Security Forces, the training of the Army and Police continued. Health rescue capabilities, AI safety checkpoints and procedures for combating IEDs (Improvised Explosive Device). This last ability, guaranteed by the departments of the Alpine genius framed in the Task Force Praesidium, finds particular application in the stabilization and normalization process that continues with the constant repopulation of the area.

The advantages

The skills acquired by the Police, combined with the capabilities of the Iraqi Army teams for the clearance of explosive devices, are supporting the return of numerous families in their homes in total safety and preventing accidents related to the presence of old explosive traps specially placed by Daesh during the phase of withdrawal from the area.
