Italian military mission "TIPH" slightly bruised in Hebron

A soldier of the Carabinieri, engaged in the TIPH mission (Temporary International Presence in Hebron) was involved yesterday morning, in an attack while he was engaged in a patrol service, in the area of ​​responsibility, with two other members of the Israeli defense (IDF).

In fact, during the patrol, a Palestinian armed with a knife attacked one of the two Israeli soldiers and wounded him in the chest. In the agitated phases of the attack, the carabiniere was slightly bruised while successfully evading the threat. The attacker was then neutralized by the Israeli security forces present on the spot. 

The Italian soldiers operate within the Temporary International Presence mission in Hebron with observation tasks, based on the agreement provided for by art. 14 of the Agreement on the Temporary International Presence in the city of Hebron, wanted by the Government of Israel and the Palestinian National Authority, signatories of the Interim Agreement on the West Bank and the Gaza Strip of 28 September 1995.

In particular, the city of Hebron, which is the mission's area of ​​responsibility, has been split into two areas, one under Palestinian control and the other under Israeli control. The personnel of the TIPH, a mission in which forces from Norway, Sweden, Turkey and Switzerland participate in addition to Italy, are authorized to operate in both areas, supporting both the Israeli and Palestinian security forces.
