MIADIT SOMALIA 10: environmental protection courses in schools

In recent days, the 10 ° course for environmental protection operators carried out by the Carabinieri coming from the Ecological operational nucleuses (NOE) of the Environmental Protection Command, employed in the Italian training mission MIADIT SOMALIA 10.

The instructors of the "Specialist Section" took care of the training module for the training of 12 selected gendarmes, 10 men and 2 women, from different departments of the Djibouti Gendarmerie. For the first time the theoretical and practical modules have been focused on the study of the local "Environmental Code" necessary for the understanding of norms and means available to Gendermeria gibutina.

The students, particularly interested in practical activities, have acquired preparatory notions for the constitution of the first Department for environmental protection, theUnité Opérationnelle de Protection Environnamental (UPE), the first in the African continent, which will be used in the activities of repression of environmental crimes and in the prevention and protection of the environment. From 2015 to date, the carabinieri have trained about sixty operators.

Following the course held by the instructors of the NOE, in agreement between the General Command of the Arma and the Djiboutian Ministry, an experimental project was also started that foresees a cycle of 13 conferences on environmental protection for primary schools involving pupils included in the age group between 10 and 15 years. The inauguration of the Conference was attended by the Minister of National Education and Vocational Training, Moustapha Mohamed Mahaoud, Colonel Vincenzo Giglio, commander of Miadit 10 and numerous civil and military authorities, as well as the gendarmes who have brilliantly passed the 10 ° course of environmental protection .

The students will participate actively in the conferences on the respect of the environment that will be held in various schools distributed in different districts and will be aimed at sensitizing the new generations on the separate collection, on the importance of waste disposal, on recycling. Young people will be the first demultipliers of the concepts learned in the classroom. In this circumstance, the Minister, who strongly wanted the project, has launched an initiative that will involve pupils, teachers, school workers and families involved in the collection of waste and cleaning, on the last Saturday of each month. of the places frequented by the students.
