Mali: continuous training for the FAM

The theoretical and practical training in favor of a Malian platoon of the 35th Malian cavalry regiment by the Italian instructors belonging to the European Union Training Mission (EUTM) has entered the heart of the Kati training complex in Mali .

The main activities were: conducting patrol activities, defending positions, responding to ambushes, escorting convoys and training on fire.

This peculiar training activity is part of a broader called CMATT (Combined Advisory Tranining Teams) which sees the EU member countries of the mission in Mali committed to restoring the full efficiency of the Malian Armed Forces (FAM), all in implementation of UN Resolution no. 2085, which approved this military assistance mission called EUTM - Mali with training, training and logistical support tasks for the Government Armed Forces of the State of Mali, in order to counter terrorist groups / irregular militias operating in the African country.

The mission of capacity building in Mali, whose first mandate dates back to February 2013, consists of about 500 European soldiers, of which about 200 are instructors. Italy participates, with a nucleus of Army instructors and staff, who are engaged in the training of the local units aimed at forming credible and stable institutions and trained units capable of countering the terrorism present in that area.
