The operational activities carried out by the Italian contingent of the Regional Command West continue, based on the 24th “Peloritani” land artillery regiment of Messina, deployed in the western sector of Kosovo since 13 June.
Following the reformulation of the order structure of the NATO Commands present in the Kosovar Operating Theater, sanctioned last August 15, the Regional Command West (RC-W) has increased the conduct of operational and training activities in order to reach the "Full Operational Capability" (FOC), or the full operational capacity of the newly formed multinational command.
The increase in operating activities is aimed at ensuring a greater presence of the RC-W units on the entire western side of Kosovo. In particular, the operations carried out by the Italian contingent, in cooperation with other multinational missions in Kosovo, range from patrols on foot to those carried away, from activities carried out in support of local police forces to those for the control of the administrative border separating Serbia from Kosovo, carried out jointly with the units of the Serbian Army.
To the aforementioned activities is added the vigilance, without interruption, at the Visoki-Decane monastery, symbol of the Orthodox Christian religion, from the 2004 declared patrimony of UNESCO.
A set of operational activities carried out by the various assets under the control of the Commander of the RC-W, Colonel Daniele Pisani, who is assigned the authority of "battlespace owner", or responsible for the conduct of all operations, as well as for the management of land assets , deployed on the western side of Kosovo, to carry out the tasks assigned.
In this context, the function performed by non-kinetic assets (LMT), or by the liaison teams that are in daily contact with the local population and institutions, is of considerable importance. A multiplicity of systems, which, interacting with each other, thanks to the coordination obtained through a synergistic work of staff, contribute to the constant maintenance of a stable and safe environment.
