Iraq: Command of Task Group "Griffon" changes

The ceremony took place yesterday at the Erbil airport (Iraq), in the presence of Dr. Serena Muroni, Consul for Italy in Kurdistan, and numerous representatives of the national and coalition components operating in the Autonomous Region, the ceremony alternation of the command of the "Griffon" Task Group, between the staff of the 5th AVES Regiment "Rigel" of Casarsa della Delizia (transferor) and the colleagues of the 7th Army Aviation Regiment (AVES) "Vega" of Rimini (successor ).

The composition of TG Griffon
The Task Group Griffon is a highly specialized aircraft unit, the product of an experienced procedural and training synergy developed by the Italian Army, between rotary wing components (NH90 multirole helicopters and A129 exploration and escort helicopters) and aircraft infantry of the 66th "Trieste" Aircraft Infantry Regiment .

The tasks of the unit
With this operating capacity, until the last 31 December, the TG Griffon it was the only structure, in the north quadrant of the Iraqi theater, called to assure, in support of the "Inherent Resolve" operation, the Personnel Recovery (PR) that is the recovery of personnel left isolated on the ground. Currently, with a view to a progressive rearticulation of the Italian military device in Iraq, the unit operates in favor of Coalition personnel with only transport tasks.

The work done
The unit leaves the theater operational after six months of intense and demanding activity, during which it has guaranteed, with around 600 hours of flight, support for coalition forces.
