The trainers of the Italian military contingent, normally deployed in Herat, concluded yesterday in the district of Shindand, about 120 km south of Camp Arena, the training and temporary assistance to the Afghan security forces.

150 Italian military went as advisors at the base "La Marmora", to assist, on three different days, the command of the first brigade of the Afghan National Army (ANA), intent on planning and conducting operations in support of government institutions and the population.

NATO-led "Resolute Support" mission (RS)

The work of the advisors Italians is developed within the mission of Resolute Support (RS) with the main task of training, advising and assisting the local security forces, to improve their functionality and their ability to self-sustain.
"The presence of Italians in our district does not make us feel alone, increases the capabilities of our security forces and encourages the population not to succumb to the abuses of insurgents," said the civil authorities, military and village leaders during the shura held in presence of the gen. Gianluca Carai, commander of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC W) to brigade "Sassari".

Periodic Train Advise Assist (PTAA)

This activity is called the Periodic Train Advise Assist (PTAA), and consists in performing "at home", in areas distant from the base of Camp Arena, the activities of training and assistance to the security forces. The temporary deployment is due to the fact that these activities can not be carried out on a daily basis and therefore are organized, periodically, on the basis of the requests that the Afghan security forces address to the Italian instructors.
