Afghanistan: 7 policemen from Herat Women's Prison qualified for first aid and pediatric rescue

The course ended in Herat a few days ago Basic Life Support Defibrillation (BLSD), conducted by the Italian Armed Forces on a mission in Afghanistan which will allow the policewomen on duty at the women's prison to stabilize the inmates and their children who are in danger of life.

The carabinieri of the Police Advising Team (PAT) with the help of medical and nursing staff from the field hospital of the Italian base (ROLE 2) belonging to the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W), on a "Sassari" brigade base authorized seven policewomen on duty at the Herat women's prison for first aid and pediatric aid. The course lasted seven days and was requested by the director of the penitentiary institute to increase the training of police personnel to give greater assistance to women in prison and their children who to date, in about 60 babies and children, they live with them in the preschool facility.

First aid topics

Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, post-traumatic and shock safety positions, the treatment of lacerated-bruised wounds and the use of the defibrillator are the main skills learned by the policemen who have also experimented through numerous practical exercises performed on manikin. Furthermore, a separate session was dedicated to pediatric first aid, with particular reference to airway disruption.

Goals of the training

Activities in favor of Afghan women, carried out in the framework of projects gender, have the dual objective, on the one hand, of making the Armed Forces and Police autonomous in the management of the professional development of their personnel and, on the other, of training new train the trainers. This is why the TAAC W activities are developed both in terms of training (Train) and consultancy (Advise and Assist).
