On the evening of Thursday 5 October, the flag of Nave Prometheus it was lowered for the last time, with the consequent cancellation of the unit from the roles of the navy after more than forty years of honorable service in the Navy.

The unit belonging to the "Atlante" class, conceived as an offshore tug for both sea rescue and fire-fighting use, was launched in 1975 at the Visentini shipyards in Donata (RO), and delivered to the Italian Navy. 'following year, operating in the offices of Naples, Messina and Augusta.

The ceremony, held at the quay work of the Naval Military Arsenal of Augusta, was attended by the commander of the Patrolling Forces for Coastal Surveillance and Defense (Comforpat), Rear Admiral Andrea Cottini who, in his speech, recalled as Nave Prometheus was a unit that, in its daily industrious and silent work, served the nation and was an active protagonist in the history of the Navy in Augusta, supporting Comforpat whose units are intensely and actively involved, without interruption, in operations of maritime surveillance and contrast to illegal activities at sea.
