Last 28 may, in the square in front of the Submarine School of the Military Arsenal of Taranto, thirty-five young aspiring submariners have officially entered the Submersible component, in the warm and symbolic embrace of one's family and loved ones.

Presiding over the qualification ceremony, the commander of the submarines (Maricosom), rear admiral Andrea Petroni, accompanied by the commander of the submarine flotilla (Comflotsom), ship captain Giorgio Cossiga.

After about 5 months of intense and demanding training carried out at Comflotsom, first among the banks of the Training Service and then aboard the submarines, finally the new "dolphins", have received directly from the hands of the senior non-commissioned officer of the submariner in service, the 1 ° lieutenant Giuseppe Giannotti, the well-deserved end certificate Submarine Basic Training, officially becoming "crew" of the great, and unique in its kind, family of submariners.

Admiral Petroni, during his speech, congratulated the newly qualified, explaining to them the true feeling, the inspiring principle of the personnel of the diving component on which to base their future: "The submariner faces life on board with a serene mind, confident to carry out his duty responsibly, confident of being able to count, with certainty and rigor, on the professionalism of many men and women, strongly motivated, loyal, tenacious, and full of love Patrio".

In the course of his speech, the admiral commander, also recalled that, in the professional path undertaken, there will be difficulties: "The path that awaits you is not simple, but these are the difficulties, the privations, the risks that we share that generate the strong cohesion that distinguishes us submarines and that makes us - in a word - special, ... assimilating to a family, true connection with our past but above all a bridge to our future”, Confirming, in closing, its incisive, constant and attentive support to the needs of the staff, in the face of respect and seriousness in pursuing the commitment undertaken today.

Becoming a submariner today means embarking on a career of very high specialization, with the fulfillment of increasing responsibilities on board complex underwater units with a very high technological content. You can access the underwater component of the Navy through the attendance of courses for officers of normal and special roles of the Naval Academy of Livorno, marshal courses of the Non-commissioned schools of Taranto and La Maddalena, through internal competition reserved for staff in service, and by participating in a special competition for volunteers on a fixed-year stay (VFP1) which allows direct access to Submarine School.
