Friday 15 February, the destroyer Caio Duilio and the frigate Carabiniere of the Navy, have completed their participation in the FANAL 2019 exercise. The exercise, which began last February 5, was organized and conducted by the French navy with the competition of allied marines and had as its theme the three-dimensional protection of an aircraft carrier group.
The exercise was aimed at increasing the level of readiness and interoperability of an allied naval group engaged in the escort of the aircraft carrier, in the presence of multiple air, surface and underwater threats. The capabilities of the individual ships and the staff involved were intensely tested in a realistic scenario that allowed to test the efficiency of the systems and the training of the crews.
For almost two weeks, aircraft and submarines of France, Italy, Spain and the United States trained together in traditional forms of struggle above and below the sea.
