The "historic" stop of the school ship lasted just over 30 hours Amerigo Vespucci in La Maddalena.

In fact, the ship had been missing from the island for 43 years! The departure from the Sardinian archipelago also marked the end of the 2017 post-training campaign; the Vespucci, in fact, he has recently returned to La Spezia.

In Sardinia, on the one day in which it was open for visits on board by the population, over 3400 curious and loyal visitors were able to discover some of the secrets of this proud sailing ship of "Made in Italy".

The commander of the ship, the vessel captain Roberto Recchia, held a press conference on board to illustrate the latest education campaign carried out in Canada and North America and the important circumnavigation of Italy that he saw precisely in the small island of Sardinia the last stop before returning. To underline the importance of the Vespucci stop in the island port, the mayor of the island, Luca Carlo Montella, was also present.

During the conference, Commander Recchia emphasized the great link between the city and the Navy, characterized both by the many Maddalenini who have entered the Navy over the years, and by the presence of the NCO School which trains, among others, personnel of the naval department, the pilots , and the machine technicians: "I wanted that with me and the mayor there was also the second-class sub-manager Gian Roberto Biosa, maddalenino and nocchiere on board. He was the helmsman of the mooring maneuver here in La Maddalena and it was certainly a great emotion for him to bring the Lady of the Seas home".

The arrival in the port of La Spezia concludes the post campaign, which led the ship to sail for over 400 hours of motion, covering 2660 miles and touching 7 ports. Around Italy, the Vespucci hosted over 56.000 people, citizens who wanted to visit the training ship.
