Last December 29, in the waters of the Gulf of Taranto, the multi-mission frigate Carabiniere of the Navy took part in a joint exercise at sea with the Egyptian school ship Shalatein parked in the port of Taranto from 26 December as part of the campaign in favor of the 3rd year students of the Egyptian naval academy.

In particular, a joint training activity (passex) was conducted which saw the two ships engaged in the execution of close kinematic maneuvers, precision navigation in narrow waters and defense from asymmetrical attacks, while the team of specialists of the marine brigade Saint Mark boarded on Ship Carabiniere has simulated the control of a suspicious merchant, boarding the Egyptian ship and simulating the conduct of an inspection.

A short but intense training event that was appreciated by the Egyptian rear admiral Nihad Shahin Aly, responsible for the maritime area of ​​the Red Sea embarked on the unit Shalatein, who expressed words of thanks for the assistance and support received during the stop of the Egyptian unit in the port of Taranto.
The exercise was also an important training opportunity for a number of Egyptian official students boarded a ship Carabiniere, who were able to live the experience of a suspicious merchant ship boarding in an international context.

The joint training activity, conducted in the waters of the Gulf of Taranto, has outlined a valid moment of professional and human growth for the crews of both units aimed at strengthening the existing bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
