Carabiniere ship cooperates with the Guardia di Finanza in a boarding activity on suspected "mother ship"

On the night between 22 and 23 November 2018, Nave Carabiniere, engaged in the operation Safe Sea, in the waters of the Central Mediterranean as a flagship of the Tactical Command of the device, jointly conducted an operation of the Guardia di Finanza law enforcement on a fishing boat of alleged Libyan flag, suspected of having released two boats drifting with about 80 migrants on board near the island of Lampedusa.

The unit of the Navy, following a report from the "THEMIS" operation on the possible presence of a vessel that would have operated as a parent unit, favoring illegal immigration, immediately proceeded to locate and identify the suspect vessel using the helicopter on board. Subsequently, the Carabiniere ship intervening between Libyan territorial waters and the suspect vessel, countered a possible escape of the mother ship and conducted a flag investigation on it. Ship Carabiniere and the patrol boat of the Guardia di Finanza GdF202 finally cooperated on the action scene in a boarding activity on the suspicious boat which, following a careful inspection, was stopped and subsequently towed to Lampedusa where it was delivered to the competent authorities . During the towing, carried out by the Guardia di Finanza patrol boat, Nave Carabiniere guaranteed a safety frame and sent a team of riflemen from the Marina San Marco Brigade on board the fishing boat.
