NATO: Dynamic Move 2018 mine countermeasures exercise started

On 30 August 2018, the "Dynamic Move 2018 - II" exercise began at the Mine Countermeasures Forces Command (MARI.CO.DRAG.) In La Spezia, and will end on 12 September.

The training activity, organized annually by the NATO Maritime Command (MAR.COM.) At the "Ecòle de Guerre des Mines" (EGUERMIN) Belgian / Dutch Mine War School, this year is carried out for the first time in Italy and sees 60 participants, including military and civilians in the defense sector, belonging to various NATO member countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Norway, Holland, Poland, Romania, Spain, United Kingdom, United States, Turkey) and specialized in the localization, identification and neutralization of naval mines, war remnants and bombs present at sea.

The exercise aims to train the staff of the "Standing NATO Mine Counter Measure Group" - which from June 2019 will be led by Italy - in planning and conducting land reclamation operations affected by the presence of dangerous devices for navigation (activity with a high dual connotation), simulating at the same time an international crisis situation between countries, with a high level of enemy surface and air threat for the coalition ships.

In the training context of excellence represented by the "Dynamic Move 2018 - II" exercise, the Italian Navy ensures a leading role towards the allied countries, through the staff of MARI.CO.DRAG., Engaged as a key figure alongside the staff of EGUERMIN, to verify the achievement of strategic objectives and the effectiveness of tactical and operational choices, as well as to ensure the resolution of any problems that emerged during the same exercise.

The objective set by the NATO Maritime Command is to continue to consolidate, in the annual calendar of training events, the "Dynamic Move II" with particular attention to the countries and commands of the so-called "southern flank of the Alliance", permanently entrusting its organization and conducted to the Italian Navy which represents an international excellence in the field of mine countermeasures, thanks to the preparation of its personnel, the availability of advanced technological equipment and the educational facilities present at the Training Center of the Command of the Mine Countermeasures Forces in Spice.
