"Angelo Cabrini" is launched in Messina, the first of the two High Speed Multifunctional Naval Units, commissioned by the Navy to the company Intermarine SpA.

The event took place in the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Navy Admiral of team Valter Girardelli, of the management of Intermarine and of the civil and religious authorities.

The ship was given the name of "Angelo Cabrini", admiral and raider of the Royal Navy, decorated with the Gold Medal for Military Valor for the sinking of the English heavy cruiser Y, 26 March 1941 in Suda Bay in Crete.

Godmother of the launch is Anna Accardo, mother of the second head Nicola Fele, raider of the Navy awarded with the Gold Medal to Valor di Marina, who died in service in the waters of the lower Adriatic in February 1992.

The UNPAV is a versatile and modern vessel that will provide a high added value to the peculiar capabilities of the Navy. In this case, the class naval units Cabrini, will provide support to the operations of the Navy special forces (Operational Group Incursori - GOI), both in the training phase and in the conduct of the same.

In addition, they will compete in the control of maritime traffic, the fight against illicit traffic, security in environments with an asymmetric threat and the evacuation of personnel from areas of crisis.

"Nave Cabrini is a further example of the remarkable skills and the very high professionalism of our national industry, understood as a whole of larger industrial groups and small and medium-sized enterprises. It is the result of the productivity of the Country System, a product that, like others, characterizes the so-called Made in Italy, famous and appreciated all over the world"declared team admiral Valter Girardelli, chief of staff of the Italian Navy.

"Over the years Intermarine has matured a solid experience and knowledge of the problems related to the design and construction of special military vessels with very stringent operational requirements", Said Dr. Livio Corghi, CEO of Intermarine -"We have established ourselves on the international market thanks to the excellent reputation gained with the supply of very special ships, including UNPAV and minesweepers, to the most prestigious worldwide Marine Marine. Working with our Navy is certainly a source of great pride and satisfaction."

Intermarine will continue at the Messina shipyard the set-up of the "Angelo Cabrini", whose delivery is scheduled during the first months of the 2019.

The versatility is one of the fundamental characteristics of the UNPAV unit, able to cope with multiple needs, thanks to a platform with free spaces dedicated to the transport of specific COMSUBIN-GOI equipment, able to develop high speeds and built with materials characterized by robustness, ballistic protection, heat resistance, shielding from electromagnetic interference, reduced weight and high structural strength.

The unit, built in composite material, has a length of 44,16 m all-out, a width of 8,4 and a displacement of 190 t: this platform allows the boarding of a RHIB Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat Zodiac Hurricane 733 in use at GOI, through a slide aft and an integrated launch and recovery system.

The propulsion system consisting of 3 pairs of Kamewa Hydrogens and XUUMXV 16 M2000 MTU engines, installed in two different engine rooms, provides the unit with the maximum speed of over 94 nodes. The waterjets offer great maneuverability and high reactivity such as to keep the platform stable and steady alongside other units.

The unit is characterized by a high level of automation that guarantees the containment of the number of crew members.

The dashboard is protected ballistically and allows a view to 360 °. The integrated dashboard console allows the control of the entire Combat System as well as the equipment for navigation and operation of the unit and the platform control and monitoring system.

A modular area in the aft area of the covered bridge allows different types of operations such as naval assault operations, release and recovery of Incursori operators employed in Special Operations. Furthermore, in particular configurations it is possible to install a containerized decompression chamber to support underwater activities. There are some rooms of the unit completely dedicated to hosting the COMSUBIN equipment.
