"Yet another demonstration of Italian excellence, a heritage of men, skills and technologies, of which the country must be proud".

Thus the defense minister Roberta Pinotti commented on the implementation of the new naval project, intervening today, at Riva Trigoso, at the ceremony for the launch of the FREMM "Carabiniere".

The ceremony was attended, among others, by the Chief of Staff of the Navy, Admiral Giuseppe De Giorgi, the Managing Director of Fincantieri, Ing. Giuseppe Bono, civil, military and religious authorities."Italy - explained the minister - due to its particular position in the center of the Mediterranean is a country with a 'maritime vocation' and by adding this latter unit to its fleet, the Italian Navy continues the unavoidable path of maintaining itself technologically at the forefront and to be able to operate in an integrated manner with the other naval forces of NATO and the European Union ". In his speech, the minister then addressed a thought of gratitude to the two Navy riflemen Massimiliano Latorre and Salvatore Girone. "Their dignity and composure honors the country" said the Minister, recalling that the government's action will continue, firm and incessant, to quickly find a solution to the affair. The "Carabiniere" frigate - so called in homage to the Arma which this year celebrates the 200th anniversary of its foundation - was created as part of the Italian-French FREMM program, born from the need to renew the line of the Navy units of the Lupo and Maestrale class and those of the French Marine Nationale Tourville and Montcalm. For the occasion, the National Association of Carabinieri on leave issued the cancellation of a postage stamp and distributed postcards dedicated to the launch of the Navy ships called "Carabiniere".
