Open Sea 2019: the second phase of the main Navy training cycle begins

Monday the 11 November exercise begins Open Sea 2019-2, second training appointment of the Navy of the year.

The serial exercise aims to train the crews of the Naval Squad units, the operational component of the Armed Forces, in the main forms of struggle on the sea and at sea (anti-aircraft, anti-ship and anti-submarine), in the Maritime Interdiction Operations (embargo operations, control of merchant traffic, compilation of the Maritime Situational Awarenes, etc.), in amphibious, hydrographic and mine-hunting activities. The increasingly difficult series will serve to consolidate individual training, putting crews to the test in a complex and realistic environment.

At this edition of the Offshore In addition to ships, submarines, airplanes and helicopters of the Navy, also units of the French Marine Nationale participate.

The marine brigade Saint Mark will carry out amphibious landing activities at the Capo Teulada shooting range, with a rate of 440 navy riflemen, in addition to 2 dog teams and the riflemen of the boarding teams of the 2nd San Marco regiment. During the exercise there will also be various interactions with the means of the Italian Air Force and with US, German and French maritime patrol aircraft.

Simultaneously with the Offshore, the units of the Navy will take part in other associated events. The 'Squale 2019' exercise, an anti-submarine exercise organized by the French navy; the 'Squalo 2019', a search and rescue exercise, organized by Maritime Rescue and Coordination Center of Naples; at the 'Ocean 2020' demonstration, dedicated to flight activities with remotely piloted helicopters.

On board the Navy ships, students from the University of Genoa, Aldo Moro University of Bari and the Free University of Social Studies - LUISS Guido Carli of Rome will be present as observers.

The exercise will end on Friday 22 November.
