LXXV Anniversary of the death of the Gold Medal to Military Valor Salvatore Todaro

Great interest and participation on the part of the authorities, citizens and school groups at the inauguration of the Historical Room named after the Gold Medal for Military Valor, Corvette Captain Salvatore Todaro, which took place at the Naval Base of MARISICILIA in Messina in collaboration with the Rotary Club.

The day dedicated to the memory of the Hero, began with the deposition of the Crown at the Monument entitled to him located in the square in front of the base of the Messina Navy. 

Following the inaugural cutting of the ribbon that sanctioned the opening to the public of the exhibition of the memorabilia that belonged to the Hero and donated to the Navy by his daughter Graziella Todaro who together with the captain of the ship Santo Giacomo Legrottaglie, representing the maritime commander Sicily rear admiral Nicola De Felice, have legitimized this moment with the signature of a parchment certifying the donation.

The Uniforms, newspaper articles of the time, photographs and some personal objects that allowed the many visitors, in particular the students of the Messina Institutes such as the Nautical "Caio Duilio" and the Higher Education Institute "Antonello" da Messina "to retrace some epic pages of our naval history.

After the inauguration of the exhibition, a conference on the figure of the Hero took place.

The morning ended with a concert by the brass quintet of the "A. Corelli" Conservatory at the base officers' club.

Mrs. Graziella Todaro, godmother of the entire ceremony, greeted the many guests present "I am very happy to have returned to Messina for the commemoration of my father who has always declared to be "Sicilian born in Messina" and on this occasion to have inaugurated the room named after him which will keep his memorabilia. I also take this opportunity for a warm wish for a Merry Christmas to the city of Messina and to the entire Navy."
