On 26 and 27 September 2017, the delegates of the European Military Marines met in Comsubin (Le Grazie - SP) as part of an initiative proposed by the European Defense Agency (EDA) dedicated to European cooperation in the areas of education and training of the underwater sector, called “Pooling & Sharing Initiative - Naval Training - Diving Study”.

Created with the aim of aggregating resources and promoting the development of common paths in "niche" operational areas, this project has already allowed to complete a first study where the priority has been to standardize the professional figure and the training of the military diver.

During the workshop held at Comsubin, the results of a second study, funded by the Agency, were presented, with the aim of identifying and describing the characteristics that military divers must possess on the basis of the various regulatory and operational aspects used in several Marine.

Therefore, the foundations were laid for identifying and describing the characteristics of these specialists within the different marinas, with the final ambition to arrive at a sort of "European driving license" for the military diver who certifies their capabilities and the psycho-physical fitness, both to the identification of the Underwater Schools of the different Nations that possess the minimum requisites for forming such personnel.

In this context it should be emphasized that COMSUBIN has always represented a recognized excellence in European and world diving. Just to cite a few examples the divers from the Navy, have intervened in numerous interventions aimed at the reclamation of the national coasts from war remnants, in treatments of hyperbaric oxygen therapy for emergency cases related to carbon monoxide poisoning and the collaboration with the Institute of ENEA research, which led the latter to adopt the rules of the Navy to conduct underwater activities in the Italian expeditions in Antarctica and finally the intervention in support of the security device for the G7.
