The event is the combination of the Portuguese REP exercise, with Anti Submarine Warfare - Mine Warfare (ASW - MW) connotation and with the use of unmanned, with the first training activity of the MUS initiative signed by 14 NATO countries.

The REP - MUS 2019 is an exercise with a strong component of experimentation with autonomous vehicles, their interoperability as well as tactics and procedures for their use in an operational context.

The Navy participates in the exercise with an autonomous underwater vehicle type REMUS 100 equipped with high definition side scan sonar capable of exploring the seabed of the assigned area independently.

The vehicle, used by the REMUS team of the Command of the Mine and Hydrographic Countermeasures Forces of La Spezia (MARICODRAG), is supported by a team of the COMSUBIN Underwater Operating Group (GOS). In the first part of the exercise the national REMUS team will work closely with a US Navy REMUS team and will later join the Belgian, Polish and Turkish personnel.

The REP-MUS 2019 exercise represents an opportunity for the Naval Team to refine the tactics of use of the REMUS 100 in the context of a combined operation of autonomous underwater vehicles thanks to the multinational connotation and the different typology of the participating assets.
