The FREMM Carlo Margottini, flagship of the operation Atalanta, after a short stop in the port of Djibouti, was engaged in a joint training activity with the destroyer Akebono of the Japanese Navy, currently stationed in the Indian Ocean as part of Task Force 151.

The exercise, held in the waters of the Gulf of Aden, saw the two units engaged in the execution of close cinematic maneuvers, exchange of communications in flashes of light and flight activity with helicopters on board.

The joint training was the result of the interest expressed by both parties in fact, during the stop in Djibouti, saw a meeting of the planning staff aboard the Akebono, during which, in an atmosphere of sincere interest and mutual curiosity, the Italian team, working with its Japanese colleagues, was able to outline in detail the activities to be carried out subsequently at sea.

The activity, as well as being profitable in terms of training and interoperability, constituted a precious moment of comparison and professional and cultural growth for both crews, with a view to strengthening the cooperation ties between the Italian Navy and the Japanese, both committed to guaranteeing freedom of navigation and the safety of maritime communication lines.
