The halo of legend that surrounds the Incursori di Comsubin, very often does not fully represent the innovative operational capabilities of the Department which, over time, increase and make it increasingly effective and responsive to the modern needs of the defense of the country.

The Incursori Operating Group (GOI), from its origins, has been characterized by the development of innovative materials, means and weapon systems, which over time have allowed it to maintain projection and intervention capabilities, exclusive to the most advanced Special Forces departments. in the world. In particular, as heir to the Assault Vehicles of the Royal Navy, the GOI has historically developed capabilities that, in the context of combat in the maritime environment, are unique and for which it enjoys undisputed international fame.

The institutional tasks of the Department provide for the conduct of the entire spectrum of Special Operations (OS) also in Counter-terrorism (CT) and Counter-Insurgency (COIN) contexts, for the achievement of political, strategic or military operational objectives. These missions are mainly conducted abroad, as part of joint forces placed under the command of the Joint Forces Command for Special Forces Operations (COFS). In this context, the GOI also operates on the national territory, in competition with the Special Intervention Units (Un.IS) of the Ministry of the Interior (GIS and NOCS), for counter-terrorism operations and more specifically, hostage release actions (Hostage Release Operations - HRO), both on land and at sea.

In the context of contingency plans, the Department is constantly in high readiness for the protection of national interests and security in crisis situations abroad and / or on the national territory. On the merits, the GOI has recently acquired the MCAD capacity (Maritime Craft Air Delivery), that is the insertion with air force of an Intervention Force (FI) made up of operators Raiders and assault boats (Zodiac type) Hurricane), from the Air Force C130J aircraft. In this context, FI can be quickly risked on the high seas thanks to the high transport capacity of the Super Hercules, for contingency interventions on objectives of national interest such as: coastal installations, naval units or hydrocarbon extraction platforms.

Obviously the MCAD involves an inter-force engagement that involves in addition to the Navy, the COFS and the other Armed Forces. As far as the Navy is concerned, the ability in question is the result of an important and demanding team work which, developed within the Comsubin Studies Office, is now maintained by the GOI thanks to continuous and meticulous training. On the merits, this capacity was also exercised in the context of the interforce drill for Special Forces named Dark Night, or the major exercise that the COFS organizes and conducts every two years, in order to exercise and maintain the full ability to plan, organize and conduct, the entire spectrum of Special Operations in an environment Joint and Combined, and to constitute the framework of one Special Operation Component Command (SOCC) in the context of a NATO operation.

This important training activity, conducted off the coast of Furbara (Rome) in October, in addition to confirming the effectiveness of the operational structure of the Navy Incursors, confirmed their high capacity to interact and interoperate with all the Command and Departments of the Special inter-operations Special Operations Section, as well as the conventional assets of the other Armed Forces.
