Completed the XX Course of Combat Medicine

The XX course of Combat Medicine, an important training moment for the Navy health personnel who prepare to operate in complex operating theaters characterized by difficult and potentially hostile environmental contexts at the facilities of the Marina San Marcosi Brigade.

This year the course saw the formation of 25 between officers and marshals of the health professions of the Miltiare Navy and a medical officer of the Italian Air Force. Also this year both visitors and instructors have worked without reserve to allow the realization of a very high level course that is regularly renewed based on a constant and methodical critical review of procedures and possible scenarios. 

The final phase of the course began on Tuesday 13 February with an exercise at the training camp in Massafra (TA). The head of the Marine Corps, Admiral Inspector Mauro Barbierato, intervened in the activity, together with a delegation of observers from the Military Health, the National Health Service and the academic world.

In particular, top personalities of the Italian Army Health Corps intervened, Major General Mario Alberto Germani and Brigadier General Luigi Maria D'Anna, of the Military Corps of the Red Cross, Major General Gabriele Lupini, of the US 6th Fleet Navy, captain Michael MC Ginnis, who contributed with their experience to analyze what was put in place by the students, raising interesting food for thought object of the meeting that took place, to follow, at the Military Hospital Center of Taranto where it was discussed possible improvements for the course as well as the need to implement a Naval Medicine course.

The exercise comes at the end of an articulated training course in which the visitors have trained to know and use the devices currently used in the various operating contexts. It allows the assessment of the abilities of the participants in a realistic scenario of combat and in conditions of psycho-physical stress, which makes the course of Combat Medicine unique of its kind in the Italian military training panorama and above all a fundamental moment for the professional preparation of the medical components of the Armed Forces as well as conferring knowledge and skills useful to intervene, with a high level of autonomy, in all rescue situations and in highly operational contexts .
