Change at the top of the Naval Squad Head Command

On Saturday 12 October 2019 took place in Taranto, on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier Giuseppe Garibaldi, the ceremony of change at the top of the command in chief of the naval team (CINCNAV) between the team admiral Donato Marzano (transferor) and the team admiral Paolo Treu (successor).

In the presence of the Chief of Staff of the Navy, team admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Admiral Marzano relinquished the post he assumed in September 2016. During this period the units and crews of the naval team participated - and participate - to numerous and diversified national and international missions, among which the Operation stands out Safe Sea, the Operation Sea Guardian for maritime surveillance and security in the Mediterranean under the aegis of NATO, the Operation Atalanta to combat maritime piracy, European operations Triton ed Eunavformed Sophia, as well as numerous national exercises, NATO, EU and the 5 + 5 initiative framework.

In his speech, Admiral Marzano gave an account of his forty-four-year career and the almost three years he spent in command of the naval squad.

"The challenge for the third millennium navies is to understand what we are navigating around to ensure Maritime Situational Awareness. The task of the Naval Team is to ensure the maritime safety of the country " he concluded. 

"Our future will be played on the sea, our well-being is important, therefore, a modern and efficient naval team" was the statement of the Navy Chief of Staff.

In taking the lead, Admiral Treu addressed a particular thought to the men and women, military and civilians of the naval squad: “We are the hearts, minds and arms that make up our crews on board and on land and that arm the related command structures, we are all part of a sort of watch, in which large and small gears are all equally indispensable, they all have equal dignity and run together to produce the result ".

Admiral Treu takes command of the naval squad from the naval staff, where he served as chief of staff.
