From the 14 to the 25 January at the "Ugo Mara" barracks in Solbiate Olona, home of the NATO Rapid Reaction Army Corps Command (NRDC-ITA), the "Comprehensive Operations Planning Course" was successfully held.

60 officers and non-commissioned Italian and foreign non-commissioned officers at the NRDC-ITA Staff, NATO Joint Commands, Large Units and Departments of the Italian Army participated in the activity included in the training offered by the NATO School in Oberammergau. For the need, this last one has made available a team of instructors and senior advisor, assisted in the teaching activity by experts of the branch of the various operative components coming from SHAPE and from the same Staff of NRDC-ITA.

The aim of the course is to prepare participants to make contributions in the NATO operations planning process, applying uniformly the principles contained in the SHAPE "Comprehensive Operations Planning" Directive (2013). The document reflects the Alliance's full adherence to the concept of "Comprehensive Approach". Already in the mission analysis phase, as in the planning and conduct of operations, NATO pursues a global approach that considers all the components (military and non-military) present in the reference scenario and able to contribute, with coordinated efforts, to the achievement of the mission objective.

Through intense theoretical and practical training sessions, the users have carried out operational planning activities at the level of Joint Task Force, reaching all the training objectives of the course, with particular reference to the ability to analyze risk factors, evaluating possible lines of action and synchronization of the maneuver in the initial phases of an overseas operation for the restoration of peace and stability in an area of crisis, in close coordination with the institutions of the host countries, the international and non-governmental organizations present in the theater.

The collaboration with the NATO School of Oberammergau confirms the role of real training HUB that NRDC-ITA has acquired and consolidated over time for multinational and joint staff. Furthermore, the specific objectives of the recently concluded course are particularly rewarding for NRDC-ITA personnel in the current phase of realignment to Army Corps Command after having held the role of Land Component Command of NATO Response Force - 2018.
