(To Staff)
25/10/18

Defense Minister Elisabetta Trenta learned the news of the death of Admiral Mario Porta, former head of the General Staff of Defense, and expresses to the members of the high official "deep condolences and sentiments of affectionate closeness in the personal name and in the entire dicastery". Grief and closeness were also expressed by the Chief of Defense General Staff, General Claudio Graziano.

Admiral Porta, during his prestigious career, held important positions both in Italy and abroad. An electronic warfare instructor, after having completed the planned command periods on various naval units and some staff assignments, he was appointed naval officer at the Italian Embassy in the United States. On his return to Italy, he obtained the command of the cruiser 'Vittorio Veneto', at the end of which he was assigned to staff duties at the Navy General Staff. He was then commander in chief of the Naval Squadron and Central Mediterranean Area and, subsequently, Secretary General of Defense and National Director of Armaments, a position he held for a little less than three years, before being appointed Chief of Staff of Defense.
