The intelligent reuse of public areas no longer useful for operational purposes is one of the main objectives that the Defense is pursuing with great determination in order to optimize the available resources.

This is what the Minister of Defense, Elisabetta Trenta said yesterday morning in Comiso on the occasion of the signing of the official deed of sale of the USAF area, once managed by the Americans, of the former NATO base to the Region. In summary, the last step in the process of transferring the internal areas to the Comiso airport, from the Ministry of Defense, to the Sicilian Region and at the same time to the Municipality of Comiso was completed.

A ceremony held inside the "Pio La Torre" airport, which was attended by the mayor, Maria Rita Schembari, the regional councilor for infrastructure and state property, Marco Falcone, the director of the task force of the Ministry of Defense for enhancement of military state areas, brig. gen. Giancarlo Gambardella, and the regional director of the State Property Agency of the Region, Vittorio Vannini.

The complex patrimonial situation of the airport was thus defined, deriving from the implementation of the Interministerial Decree to change the status of 14 December 2010 and the preliminary Memorandum of Understanding of 31 August 2010, which they had left in possession of the Air Force an airport area of about 850.000 square meters.

"We put the citizen at the center also in the Defense. Every time the citizen saw an infrastructure or a part of territory, used by the Defense, he had the perception of a good that had been taken away from him. Now we are working on a new relationship of mutual support with cities, businesses, the territory and universities. The Defense with them wants to speak for a new relationship with the territory " explained Minister Trenta.

Therefore, the rationalization process implemented by the Armed Forces and the consequent activities aimed at the enhancement and disposal in the infrastructural sector, carried out by the Defense Task Force in agreement with the State Property Agency, continue.

In recent days, the beach of Porto Tramatzu, in Sardinia, has been definitively sold: "Continue our work towards a sharing of defense assets in favor of the community" explained the owner of the Dicastery who said he was proud to have carried out this project. "We are working on the intelligent reuse of areas not useful for defense, and doing so requires a continuous comparison with the territories, from shared use to the sale of spaces", concluded before the signing with which the process of transfer of the internal areas to the Comiso airport was completed.
