Friday 2 November Admiral James Foggo, commander of the Allied Joint Force Command Naples and coordinator of the NATO exercise Trident Juncture 2018, in place in Norway from 25 October to November 7, visited the Bodo air base, where most of the aerial component of the exercise operates.

They range from the Eurofighters of the 36th and 37th Wing, able to carry out Air Defense operations and escort to protect strategic coalition aircraft, to the Tornadoes of the 6th Wing, in the IDS (Interdiction-Strike) and ECR (Electronic Combat) versions Reconnaissance), used for the suppression of enemy air defenses.

A strategic role plays the assets of the 14 ° Stormo: the KC-767, the tanker (aviocisterna) able to multiply the range and range of action of other aircraft supplying them in flight, and the CAEW G-550 (Conformal Airborne Early Warning ) a very sophisticated flying platform for surveillance, sighting and command and control, essential for the achievement of Air Superiority and support for surface and flight forces.

The Air Force also competes with its Air Riflemen of the 16th Wing, who will support their Army colleagues in the specialized role of JTAC (Joint Terminal Attack Controller), the “eyes on the ground” of the aerial instrument.

La Trident Juncture 2018 is a multinational exercise of NATO, which aims to refine the ability to jointly operate the 29 countries of the Alliance and partner countries. It is the largest NATO exercise of the 2018, with the aim of verifying and training the NATO Response Force, the multinational immediate response force with which NATO is able to respond promptly to threats.
