Emergency transport from Brindisi to Milan

Last Saturday a man of 33 years, suffering from a very serious respiratory pathology, was urgently transferred from Brindisi to Milan with an aircraft of the Italian Air Force to allow immediate admission to the European Oncology Institute of the Lombard capital.

At the request of the Brindisi Prefecture, the Situation Room of the Rome Air Force Chief of Staff immediately ordered the activation of the flight, which was carried out by a Falcon 50 aircraft of the 31 ° Stormo of Ciampino (Rome).

The aircraft, coming from the Rome Ciampino airport, reached the Brindisi airport at 13.03 and, despite the adverse weather conditions, after boarding the patient accompanied by his wife and the medical team who assisted him, took off at time of the Milan-Linate airport at 13.27.

Arriving at the Lombard airport, the patient, on board an ambulance waiting for him, reached the Milanese hospital to be subjected to the appropriate specialist care.

The aircraft of the 31 ° Stormo of Ciampino are used for the transport of state and for missions of public utility, such as emergency medical transport of patients, serious traumatized and organs for transplants, as well as for interventions in favor of people in risk situations . The latter is an activity that, due to the imminent danger of life of the people transported, imposes an adequate level of readiness, twenty-four hours a day, 365 days a year.

The Brindisi Detachment, placed under the Logistics Command, in addition to providing support to the peacekeeping and humanitarian nations of the United Nations, also provides, 24 hours a day, 24 days a year, assistance to civil aviation air navigation services, passing aircraft belonging to NATO countries, providing the command functions of the aeronautical garrison through logistical and administrative support to the Armed Forces of the Brindisi area.
