After the First World War, the nations that had participated wanted to honor the sacrifices and the heroisms of the collectives in the body of an anonymous fighter fallen with the weapons in hand. In Italy this idea was supported by General Giulio Douhet: from there the construction of commemorative monuments, including the Unknown Soldier of Rome. Today, the Military Aeronautical School of Florence is dedicated to Giulio Douhet and, through the words of the commander Michele Buccolo, it is clear how much the name of the School to the general has a precise meaning: “Military Schools are no longer cadet factories, but have only one goal: to form honest, capable and aware citizens".

The importance of the individual, yesterday as today, is at the center of everything. "The peculiarity of the school is that in addition to an articulated and in-depth educational program, children are allowed to train on a solid know-how, acquiring that sense of responsibility, that mental discipline that is not an end in itself, but an order of ideas , is the awareness that to reach complex results it is necessary to carry out great sacrifices. Attending a Military School means having an opportunity for growth, it means learning to manage your own time and those who go out there initially have an edge over their colleagues who did not take this path".

45 the places available to the "Giulio Douhet" for the academic year 2017 / 2018: 18 for the classical high school and 27 for the scientific high school. A pre-university educational offer of excellence which is complemented by sports and extra-curricular activities, such as music and theater. "One does not think only of cultural knowledge, but also of knowing how to do and knowing how to be. - emphasized the commander Buccolo - The Military School is the right place for those who are willing to make great sacrifices today to reach important goals tomorrow. Our educational offer is of excellence and is pursued beyond the choices that will be made by each student at the end of the studies. However, the boys who choose to remain in the Armed Forces have been around 43% for twelve years now".

Students, but not only. Families also play an important role in the educational path, as Buccolo himself explains: "parents are involved in the project as they are called to represent the fundamental nucleus of an educational alliance that must exist between the Military School and the family itself, because it must be the first to share the ethical-moral goals and values that exist in the School, otherwise there would be a counter-tendency and a loss for the boy". This dimension is linked to the happiness of having a child in a Military School and knowing that it is protected and informed about important issues such as cyberbullying, road safety education or first aid. Activities that are always carried out at the highest levels and with specialized personnel.

For those interested in getting to know the reality of the Military School up close, an appointment with the 1 ° and the 8 April Open Day.
