General Corsini, welcomed by Colonel Andrea Marradi, Commander of the Wing, took note of the local reality in order to acquire the direct knowledge of the operational peculiarities and the logistic aspects that characterize the Department, with particular reference to the aspects connected to the employment of the personnel , through an illustrative briefing.
Subsequently, the Director of the DIPMA made a visit to the areas of relevance of the Stormo, including the logistics area, the training area in the locality of Trasconi and the operational area, where he witnessed an exercise prepared by the Air Riflemen who they are trained in the reaction techniques to an ambush.
At the end of the visit, General Corsini expressed his appreciation for the welcome received and expressed his satisfaction with the constant commitment of the staff who reached the "tasks" on every occasion, both nationally and internationally. assigned in the Force Protection sector with dedication and professionalism.
The 16 ° Stormo "Protection of the Forces", established on May 25, 2004 at the Martina Franca site, guarantees safety and terrestrial protection to personnel, vehicles and materials, as well as to installations and infrastructures of particular interest for the Armed Force, within national and international. These tasks are guaranteed by the "Air Rifle Battalion", made up of specialized and qualified personnel with an intense training process, aimed at ascertaining the spirit of adaptability, balance, readiness, as well as the ability to operate in different scenarios for times prolonged.
