The 1 ° Course for Counter-Unmanned Aerial System Operator (C-UAS) has been completed in recent weeks. The activities of the 16 ° Stormo "Protection of the Forces of Martina Franca (Ta) participated in Terrestrial Defense personnel of the operational Departments of the Italian Air Force.The objective of the course is the learning of techniques, tactics and procedures for sighting and the possible neutralization of drones, even of very small dimensions, or flying over sensitive or interdict areas, such as military airports, at low altitudes.
This is one of the activities carried out within the broader process of study and development of modern tools to combat this threat, for the protection of personnel, of the military installations in which it operates and of the material goods stored there. Measures made necessary by the proliferation of illegal activities conducted with the use of remote piloting systems, which due to their size are difficult to visualize with the traditional surveillance and detection systems and complex contrast with conventional aircraft or helicopters.
The course was supervised by the instructors of the Survive Training Team To Operate / Force Protection (STO / FP) of the 16 ° Stormo, national training center of the Armed Forces for the Terrestrial Defense specialty, in collaboration with the Center of Excellence for Remote Piloting Aircraft Amendola (Fg). The frequenters, non-commissioned officers and troop graduates already specialized in the field of Force Protection, took part in theoretical lessons and practical training sessions.
An unprecedented capacity developed thanks to the experiences acquired in the operating theaters. A further element of protection, which integrates the traditional systems of air defense and stands as an enabling factor for air power, because it prevents hostile unmanned systems from influencing the performance of the operations of the Armed Force.
