"From industry 4.0 to logistics 4.0: the race towards the future has begun", this is the title of an event promoted and organized by the Air Force Logistics Command, which was held yesterday in Rome with the collaboration of important partners from the institutional world. , research and industry.

The meeting wanted to be an opportunity to study in depth the topic "Industria 4.0", the era of the so-called "intelligent factory", on which the main industrialized countries have already activated to support the national industrial sectors, and among these the Italy which has developed a National Plan through the Ministry of Economic Development.

The event is part of the initiatives to stimulate change and innovation that the Air Force and the entire Defense sector have laid at the base of their reorganization policies.
The main objective was to evaluate the impact that this revolution will bring to complex organizations, such as the Air Force, as well as to stimulate - within the Armed Forces and among the many stakeholders - the reflection on the construction of a Logistics Department 4.0 targeted. The occasion also allowed us to contribute to an evolution of the entire national aeronautical sector, but also as a link and synergy with the initiatives and experiences of other sectors of the country.

After a welcome address from the AM logistic commander, air squad general Gabriele Salvestroni, was the head of staff of the Air Force, gen. of the air team Enzo Vecciarelli, who in his speech wanted to underline how "the search for ever greater efficiency represents the primary objective for the armed forces. Logistics 4.0 is the future in this sense. A cultural and technological revolution that is already in act and which can represent the engine of the country system ".

Through the contributions of the various external speakers - from the institutional world with the intervention of the general director of MiSe, Stefano Firpo, of the aerospace industry with Leonardo, ALA (Advanced Logistics for Aerospace), Avio Aero, Electronics and Vitrociset, to that of services with Google and Trenitalia, to the academic and research sector with representatives of the Polytechnic University of Turin and the University of Teramo - the implications of a revolution that radically changes all production processes and that focuses on key concepts such as robotics and automation, augmented reality, management of huge and complex amount of information, the so-called Big Data.

In this scenario, an in-depth analysis, such as the one conducted today, is an indispensable condition for making informed decisions in the interest of the functionality of the Armed Force and of the military instrument as a whole. Confronting, collaborating, creating synergies with other institutions, experts and representatives of important economic sectors and the academic world is a mandate entrusted to the Armed Forces to be concretely a resource at the service of the country.

This event will not remain an isolated event, but represents the first step in a path of growth, study and collaboration on issues, such as that of "industry 4.0", which are destined to significantly change the way of life. In the coming months, with the contribution of "Ernst & Young", one of the main organizing partners of the event, a collaboration platform will be created that will allow different organizations and realities to confront, share ideas and select different topics related to "logistics 4.0 "For the Air Force. Homogeneous groups of experts from institutions and the academic world, large industry, SMEs and start-ups, will then compete in a specific hackathon event, a sort of creative marathon lasting 48 hours in which people from different backgrounds will compete to find the best solution to the identified theme hackathon to be carried out in Italy on the subject of logistics for the aeronautical sector, with a further element of novelty: the groups will work in a hangar, among the airplanes, so as to physically bring together thought, means and materials.
