Historical stop for the 4 ° flock that recently celebrated the achievement of the 50000 flight hours on the Eurofighter aircraft. The Typhoon it is supplied to the Department by the 2004 and was introduced to meet the security needs of the national airspace.
The 50.000 hours include training and operational flight hours on the national territory and abroad, in operations outside the national borders, within the NATO missions of Air Policing and in the interforce drills, carried out by the pilots of the IX Group Caccia and 20 ° Gruppo Volo.
To these, are added those carried out in the alarm service, guaranteed by the 4 ° flock 24 hours on 24 and 365 days a year, without interruption.
Fourteen years of intense activity for the men and women of the "Fourth", years characterized by professionalism, commitment and dedication to the work of those who, on a daily basis, contribute to generating the flight activity and which have allowed the achievement of this important stage for the Air Force.
The institutional task of the 4 ° flock is "ensure the air defense of the area of national interest, contributing to the control, since the peace period, of the relative airspace and to carry out air defense operations in the assigned areas, in the framework of participation in international crisis prevention and management operations".
Specifically, the department is involved in the alarm service, 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, through the use of the Eurofighter aircraft.
The 4 ° flock also deals with ensuring the operational conversion of the Armed Force pilots to be used in the EF2000 line.
