After the USSOCOM (United States Special Operations Command) made the decision to adopt the new 6,5 coup Creedmoor (6,5x49) as standard caliber for rifles from sniper, it was inevitable that the manufacturers would adapt to this decision by recalibrating the existing weapons. As in the case of the Belgian FN Herstal that will present a new LMG prototype at the Special Operations Forces Industry of Tampa Minimum.

The new model of the Minimum, called Mk-48 Mod.2, is in 6,5 caliber Creedmoor. According to tests carried out by the US Special Operations Command, the new shot has a higher range than 40% compared to ammunition in 7,62x51 caliber, with 30% less sensitivity to side wind. The tests were carried out with an FN Scar Mk.20 Ssr (Sniper support rifle) chamber in 6,5 Creedmoor.

Externally the Minimum offer to the American Special Forces incorporates the modifications adopted by the Mk.3 model in caliber 7,62x51, with stock equipped with adjustable cheek pad, new rod equipped with slides Picatinny at 3, 6 and 9, compatible with front handle and folding bipod. The goal of the FN would be to offer the new one Minimum like Assault Machine Gun for the USSOCOM.
