SEASTEMA, a Fincantieri Group company specialized in integrated ship automation systems, in partnership with an important Korean system integrator, HANWHA SYSTEMS, as prime contractor, delivered the SEASNavy ship automation system (ECS, Engineering Control System) on the first of the eight Daegu-class frigates (FFX-II), built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. for the South Korean Navy (RoKN).

FFX-II is the first South Korean military ship to be equipped with an integrated CODLOG propulsion, with gas turbine and electric propulsion. This complex propulsion system is entirely controlled by the advanced Propulsion Control System provided by HANWHA SYSTEMS and SEASTEMA and based on the SEASNavy ECS platform.

SEASNavy ECS is a new concept automation system for the integrated management of the platform, developed by SEASTEMA with the aim of meeting the new operational needs of modern military ships in terms of flexibility and reliability.

SEASNavy is characterized by a high level of integration and by a significant number of automated controls and functions, whose reliability has already been demonstrated in many European naval programs.

One of the key success factors of this project was the use of a sophisticated dynamic simulation technique developed by SEASTEMA. This tool allows you to test the most important control software algorithms in a laboratory environment before installing the system on board the ship.

Another important key to success was the contribution of HANWHA SYSTEMS, a highly local prime contractor, which ensured a proactive approach to project management and great local support, also thanks to cooperation with the customer.

YOO Kyung Nam, Head of Engineering for DSME comments: "This project has been particularly challenging for DSME both for the new complex propulsion configuration and for the other innovative solutions introduced, thanks to the local commitment of HANWHA SYSTEMS, to the professionalism and competence of the engineers of SEASTEMA and its parent company, to the high quality of the product, the project has been carried out successfully and in compliance with the scheduled timing. In addition, the short time spent on installation and testing of the ECS system has helped the shipyard and the suppliers of the various ship systems in their start-up and delivery activities ".
