Fincantieri handed over the P61 offshore patrol to the Maltese Armed Forces, which carried out modernization work carried out at the dry dock run by the Group inside the Port of Genoa.

The aim of the works, which lasted about 6 months, was to greatly improve the unit's ability to react. The modernization also involved the installation of a new main propulsion system, other machinery and equipment, as well as the overhaul of most on-board systems.

With a length of over 53 meters, the P61 patrol boat was built and delivered by the Fincantieri plant of Muggiano to the Armed Forces of Malta in the 2005 and derives from the evolution of the project of the Diciotti patrol class, units built by Fincantieri for the Coast Guard Italian.

The upgrade project was co-financed by the European Internal Security Fund.
