Through the military sale procedure abroad, the US Air Force awarded Boeing a 279 million dollar contract for Japan's first Self-Defense Defense KC-46 tanker (JASDF) including logistical support: first sale International Aircraft.
Japan chose Boeing's KC-46 compared to the competition after the KC-X race. The tanker will be added to the current fleet of four KC-767Js.
The US Air Force will operate with the planned fleet of 179 KC-46 air-dispensers over the middle of the century.
