The word to the readers: Matteo Salvini, the "patriot"

(To David Rossi)
17/12/18

From "mamma" Trenta to the "patriot" (Italian, ex Poano) Salvini. A little less than two weeks ago we said that our defense minister liked his "maternal" image: a woman, capable, interested, reassuring and protective towards military personnel. Now, even with a response from the readers a lot (but a lot!) Inferior, we find ourselves talking about another minister: Matteo Salvini. We will do this by immediately giving the floor to some of you, who have written particularly interesting things, and then leaving a few lines to the writer for considerations.

Let's start with Sergio (I promised not to publish the surnames, but I do not deny that it is an old acquaintance of this column). For him, Salvini is "fruit" of our time.

The historical periods follow one another like the seasons in Nature; for each season, its own fruits, so from each age the relative characters. Farmers and historians know the subject by sketching out forecasts. But we consumers looking for strawberries in December, we look for greenhouses; not finding them, we touch Matteo Salvini. Salvini is a genuine fruit of the season, and this does not make it a good or bad product; it is personal tastes or diets that make it palatable or indigestible. Although apparently no one has voted "that fascist" of Salvini or defends him with a sword, not only has he been elected, but he always enjoys increasing support. How come this? Because, as a good fruit of the season, it embodies what the organism would need, but that no one has the courage or the dignity to admit. This season, highly laxative fruits are needed, and Salvini perfectly dresses the role, saying what nobody wants to say, but that "someone should say" and doing (or saying to do) what "someone should do". But you know, exceeding with laxatives, it's not healthy. Coming to us, I personally find the Security Decree not exempt from imperfections, however, it is necessary to respond to issues that are incunruited by previous governments (elected or not). Who knows if he can prevent events like Strasbourg? Salvini raises, rightly, the voice with the EU, but risks underestimating it. Opens doors to Russia and Libya that counts; will it be two-way? Rightly critical operation Sophia, which should be re-elaborated. Absurd, however, do everything yourself. He resorts to nationalism, and there is, but we avoid another step longer than the leg. We are not a power. Finally, it's nice to tweet, but some exits better leave them at Crozza, and do not overwhelm the ministers at work. When the season is over we will discover if we were all Salviniani immediately or among the "I told you so".

On another note Piero, for whom the Interior Minister would have done better to bite the language BEFORE the attack on Hezbollah.

I read Salvini's declarations in Israel: I am astonished. I understand what you think, I understand that it is the sincerity his "figure", I understand that it is in constant electoral bell, I understand that he wants to make the pleasures in the house of his guest, but endanger so "unhappy" the lives of our guys who work in the area is pure cynicism.

Andrea wrote us twice: the first, he asked a question, after a brief examination of the Lega-Berlusconi report:

Salvini is a man who grew up having before his eyes the relationship between Bossi and Berlusconi, of which we are all now aware. You cannot understand Salvini today, if you don't know what determined the story of the two characters who in one way or another made the history of the Italian center-right from about 30 years until yesterday. Through them, their "example", he understood the parameters that determine the real power in Italy, and he combined this ineluctable awareness with his instinctive knowledge of what goes on in the minds of people who go to the market in the morning, and who return from I work on the bus in the evening, being the son of those same people. Matteo Salvini knows few things, but what he knows he uses best to have the consent he needs, of this he must be acknowledged, and he has always known, among other things, who will be his real political competitor, that is Matteo Renzi , and is preparing for the showdown, which will see him fight for what's left of FI. Nothing to say about Salvini's cunning tactics then.
But, as an old soldier, the "strategic" question I ask myself is: would I want Matteo Salvini as commander in an operational mission? I leave the answer to those who perhaps will read me. This question, regardless, should always be asked, evaluating all and I mean all Italian politicians. It does not seem to me that this has happened until today.

Then, after the declarations in Israel, here is the answer that Andrea was looking for:

After a few days Salvini answers my question contained in the first email: "Would I like Matteo Salvini as commander in an operational mission?". Today our Minister of the Interior visiting those parts comes out calling Hezbollah "Islamic terrorists", without taking into account that our military contingent is lined up between them (also) and Israel. The inappropriateness of the exit is evident and defines the character with sad precision and is disheartening, because we do not understand its practical usefulness for our mission and also for our national position, unless we frame it in a mere desire to appear for personal reference purposes on some news sites and obviously in our news and newspapers. And this is not about media and social cunning, but a much simpler arrogant ignorance. I had already seen another Italian politician make more or less the same mistake: Emma Bonino in Afghanistan. I hoped not to have to attend you anymore but, as mentioned in the first email, Italian politicians should never be underestimated in their predictability.

It is undeniable that Salvini likes it. Very very much. And not without reason. The Ulrico reader explains it very well.

I believe that the judgment on the Minister of the Interior is undoubtedly positive, and on a double plan:

  • on the strictly political one, it is a valid barrier to certain catta / boldriniste and utopist derives of which the M5S suffers and which incarnate in Roberto Fico;
  • on the strictly operational one, it is a Minister who has marked a clear turnaround on relations with the Police and that, in terms of the fight against the organizations that invested, they shook and prospered on illegal immigration (whether NGOs or certain " pious "associations that bear the name of Saints) expressed itself clearly.

The recent controversy with the Prosecutor Spataro (that of the unforgettable case "Abu Omar") is evidence of the sanguinary and pragmatic nature of a man who tries to be always in tune with public opinion and wants to highlight in media terms the importance of the Order's Forces, recently denigrated and "tried" because of certain episodes that are undoubtedly serious but still episodes.

But it is equally true that Salvini has not only admirers. And that these in turn explain very well "because Salvini no ..." as Massimo does:

I think Salvini is a mortal danger for the great majority of Italians, there was a deadly coincidence of facts in his action: he was completely right on the problem of irregular immigration and continues to have it, well the problem is that his economic policy autarchic and hatred towards Europe in general as well as towards the European Commission which will soon change but not in the direction desired by him indeed the majority will be even more hostile to Italy if we continue like this it will be a disaster for Italy so I hope that this gentleman is deposed by his own who are not the losers of the starred penta but entrepreneurs, middle class and even workers ... via Salvini and on with Giorgetti.

Salvini has a lot of followers. It is popular in every sense. This is how the reader (and military) Giovanni describes it:

Hi ... from the good military Defense Online calls together and I answer. So a minister of the interior was not seen for several years ... pragmatic ... attentive in a concrete way to the problems ... criticized because it tries to solve them! I'm glad you can finally see some light at the end of the tunnel. Let's work and above all avoid unnecessary hysteria of an opposition now to fruit but through a ruthless journalism tries to sink it ... but unfortunately thanks to the help of the people will not succeed. THANK YOU.

We said about Sergio. But also Luca is a veteran of this column: to him - although he cut a little 'prose for space requirements - we leave the last word because we speak of the magical acronym SDM (Salvini Di Maio).

By popular acclaim, condominium administrators have been facilitated to leave and now the SDM construction company has arrived, what do we want to build? The previous administrators had given the keys to the door to everyone and everyone who did everything, what do we want to do when we grow up?
To expect some politician to arrive who with the magic wand makes us become like Paris and Berlin seems utopian to me; how can politics so much? ITALIANS have to work hard to change. What are you doing for your country? Let's reflect and see what happens: if the world were only North America and Europe, democracy and democratic values could exist, more or less the same rules, more or less the same values, practically a neighborhood of more or less large or small condominiums where everyone lives peacefully in their own apartments. The world is different: there are huts, fortresses and castles, mentalities and values are different from place to place; let's take one at random: the Chinese. They live in a castle, they have convinced everyone that their country is a condominium and everyone believes in it, they have different mentalities, have different feelings, and a lot of thirty-year grudge, the Boxers do not forget, some entrepreneurs, however, have a doubt. Trump and Theresa May Construction Center Are Moving; even the Putin construction cooperative is at a good point, we ITALIANS kissed by wisdom or perhaps a fortune from the backside we found the SDM. I know that I probably curse, but they seem to me so much Fidel and Ernesto the Cuban masons. Who knows what Cuba was like five months after they took office after years of condominium administrators? Maybe it takes a while for the concrete to dry and start building?

Now, if you have had the patience to follow us up to this point, the writer will tell you his own.

Salvini: was it true glory?

The writer does not have the faintest idea. For now, we have only seen the security decree (with its many advantages and its faults) and the "maneuver of the people", which seems rather a U-turn to avoid clashing with the battleship of Brussels driving the mill of change. For the rest, we have enjoyed many (and often courtly) patriotic statements, other declarations of love for the country of election ("I'm better in Moscow than in many other places in Europe"), some political-media tours between Africa and Middle East (with lots of "male" pictures with weapons in hand for a country that exhibited quality war material), some boutades to the taste of the twenty years for the nostalgic voters, many tours for the boot to meet the common people ( and enjoy the Made in Italy enogastronomy) and an exhausting electoral campaign against the only opposition force to the Lega di Salvini: the 5 Stars Movement. On this, we will give the floor to the readers again very soon.
