The word to the readers: the yellow-green government's foreign policy. Between lights and shadows

(To David Rossi)

Friends of readers, less than two weeks ago, we asked you to judge the government's foreign and security policy, in the face of positions we had defined as "creative" (on Venezuela, missions abroad, cyber security, etc.) also for the obvious attempts of the Quirinale and the Viminale to remedy them. Below, find the answers of some of you.

As for me, I must say that certain decisions and positions taken by the current government seem to me inspired by an evangelical maxim: the right hand does not know what the left is doing. Or to put it into geometry: the positions of Grillini and Leghisti meet only infinitely, like two parallel lines. But on closer inspection, to govern Italy this is already enough ...

The analysis of Sergio, an old acquaintance of this column, deserves to be published without comment, as it is very analytical on its own.

Climate change has led to movements of epochal peoples and new and difficult challenges for everyone. Sober and far-sighted policies are obligatory, how to relate them to national values and interests. It is since Roman times that the so-called Bel Paese has been mired by ideological and interest-related junipers. There are no causes, but pretexts. That of our politicians is not "healthy" political competition, but a confused meeting of condominiums among heterogeneous dull apartments. The methods of approach to internal and external issues, even of high weight, are the same.

Venezuela: without going into the regularity of the office of Maduro or the Guaidò / Usa report, I find it indecent to have supported Guaidò and then to the European vote to distance himself by hiding behind a rhetorical neutral rhetoric. A counterproductive meekness that gets contempt from Maduro, Guaidò, Europa and Italo-Venezuelans, without benefits. In this case, as it was done, it was good to: keep quiet and let them hurry up? Ok. Support this gentleman who proclaims himself president? Ok. Deny both? Ok. But the position had to be firm and decisive and well thought out right away.

Yellow Gilet: it would not be the first revolution born of shared principles, then ended up in wrong hands. If the original principles were also shared individually, it is inadmissible, for a party of a foreign government, to take favorable official positions. Aggravated by the fact that it is only one part of the government, while the other promotes anti-picket laws.

Afghanistan: another half-measure with reduced national interests. While Graziano bows, the honorable efforts of our boys are not enough to make a difference, but they have significant costs. Implement? Retire? No, stay halfway.

Conte, Trenta and those who represent us abroad are punctually bypassed, denied or manipulated by Di Maio and Salvini in perpetual election campaign, adding further problems and embarrassments in an already difficult moment. I do not see light.

Antonio does not hide the fact that he has opened a credit of trust towards the yellow-green majority.

I am a member of the forces of the Order. It was time for a government to emerge from the subaltern and traditional ranks of Europe, finally out of the chorus. No flight from Afghanistan, the Americans are about to withdraw their troops and if they go we go. Yellow gilet? Did Di Maio do well to sympathize with them, do not you remember Macron's words about Italic populism? Not to mention Sarkozy that to get rid of the ENI has overthrown Gaddafi ... The Government has cut a lot of Defense - it's true! - but has inherited a good deal of trouble from previous governments and we know the Defense is not covered in electoral promises. They are doing a good job, pursuing a policy of ostracism and obstructionism trying to make Europe change ...

The Italians have, in politics, tragic troubles, but ... not serious. An ancient "customer" of these pages, Luca, has the gift of irony ...

As long as the boat sinks let it go, until the boat sinks you do not row, until the boat goes, you are watching, when Italy comes the bell will ring .... ...... So the Italians do not hear ... ..

Afghanistan: the most warlike country in the world for centuries. The Afghans: if they didn't have the English or the Russians on duty, they slaughtered each other among tribes. Now that the American video game is over, they will return to their ancient traditions. Cynical? Study the history of the most warlike people in the world; if you want to imitate them, give your XNUMX-year-old son a Kalashnikov. I am amazed that they have spared us but on the other hand the swords do not do anything anymore, the muzzle-loading rifles too, the AK few; the technological gap too much: they can smell you but you with a night vision device….

Venezuela: very rich country there are many but many Italians or Italians, highly indebted to Russia and China. Everyone cares about his riches. Chávez / Maduro perhaps corrupt? Perhaps they brought the country to ruin? The fact is that Guaidò is already inside, that the Gringos will enter if they guarantee the debt of the Russians and the Chinese. What do you do? Personally, if we had armed forces, I would send an Italian contingent to guarantee our human bond with the country that gave so much to our fellow countrymen, to help the population from political madness, sometimes sorry or hallucinations.

The teacher Joséphine: she is not a XNUMXs porn movie but your future French teacher. Oh yes, guys: or should I start calling you garçons? If they take out the last wells in Libya and Eni ex Agip collapses for those who make petrol, nobody can take the French course away from you. Maybe better than dying in Libya to defend national interests? One thing is certain: there is less and less Italy, we call in French with TIM, we exchange our money with French banks such as Unicredit, now we will make diesel with the French company Eni. And yes, we were a country that had everything: we had the Po Valley, our Taliban, the southerners our Latinos, we had the Vatican before they brought it back to Avignon, we had Leonardo da Vinci, Garibaldi, Andreotti, let's say it was good while it lasted .

Until the boat sinks let it go, until the boat sinks you do not row, as long as the boat goes, just watch, when Italy comes the bell will ring ... So the Italians don't hear ... The current government? Italian, but I know so much that it will be the last. They will end up like Maduro, Napoleon le nouveau !!!

Andrea is a very ... real-politik analyst!

Apart from the fact that it should simply be said that our foreign policy - Middle Eastern, African, but also Asian Persian, neighboring Caucasian - is dictated (subordinated?) By the needs-will of ENI, in addition to those of Leonardo-Finmeccanica, which often leads to confrontation not at all friendly with our European and NATO "partners / allies", as well as with other natural competing countries, therefore it must be framed in a geo-economic-energy-business perspective, therefore nothing or political-historical-ideological point, and keeping silent for humanitarian decency ... and that defense is a concept referred to the active / passive prevention of terrorism ...

- Escape from Afghanistan: perhaps first it would be appropriate to start explaining (they are 75 years that we wait) because Italy MUST lend (free) soldiers, equipment, infrastructure to USA, NATO, UN when ordered and to European "allies". Everything then would appear clear, though perhaps a bit 'painful.

- Denial of support to Guaido: it is a problem of M5S, which instead thinks it is an opportunity (which only partially conditions the government) to seem left in something. Better here than anywhere else (given that ENI does not care about the place). Son boys ...

- The crumbs of cyber security: Strange. The M5S, today of government, are governed and under the direction of Casaleggio, which should understand more than others the importance of the issue. Or maybe not. Or maybe who knows.

- Support for Yellow Gilet: Son boys (2) ... They think they are politicians but nobody has bothered to explain even the etymological meaning of the term, and they do not even dream of studying it. The ally Salvini, who has read as and perhaps least of them, at least has political instinct. As long as the liaison lasts ...

The reader Lorenzo poses legitimate questions about the foundations of our country's international relations.

The question for this government, for the past and for future governments,
solves itself in the questions that nobody ever formulates:
1) Does being an ally correspond to being servants, that is, to undergo the foreign policy choices of our ally?
2) Does criticizing and not fully aligning oneself with an ally's foreign policy choices always involve wanting to break the alliance?
3) If the foreign policy choices of an ally clash with the strategic interests of our country, must we necessarily and necessarily sacrifice our strategic interests?
4) Is the political-military alliance between states characterized or not by being a context of primus inter pares?
5) With the exception of the treacherous military attack on the national sovereignty of one of our allies (to be clear the aggression suffered against its own territorial integrity, the life of its citizens on homeland soil, in short, the aggression for attack and / or invasion - and I exclude the act of terrorism, recalling the speech to the Chambers by Mr Andreotti after the sad event of 11/9/2001) with respect to which, without a shadow of a doubt, the obligation of defense on our part of the ally is triggered, when we are obliged to align ourselves in adhesion to the ally's requests?
6) With regard to the Atlantic Pact and the EU Treaties, what obligations they entailed with respect to the Libyan, Syrian and Ukrainian events from 2011 onwards and, what obligations they entailed with respect to the current affair
Venezuelan?
In short, all the allies are calling Italy to align with their choices, but can we call the allies to align with ours?
Do we have foreign policy choices? In the story that involved our soldiers La Torre and Girone, have any allies aligned with us? or have we called some allies to align with us?
I am not a soldier but it seems to me that Italy always suffers and never asks and indeed, the few times it asks, is instead left with an inch of nose.
I'm wrong?
