The earthquake is the national interest that is not there

The earthquake of the night between 24 and 25 in August in addition to the tragedy of the victims and the desolation of the destructions highlighted a further and perhaps never thoroughly examined endemic evil of Italy, the total absence of the concept of national interest.

First of all you should try to understand in simple words what the interest of a nation is and then it would be necessary to give this system a concrete dimension so that an entire national community can enjoy it. The national interest, to want to make a maximum common denominator of what has been said so far, is the set of ambitions of a State which, if not pursued, determine the end of the State itself understood as an organized and supportive whole of citizens. Having said all this and adding that the subject is paradoxically the foundation of the realist political school (power above ethics and society nda), as well as the basis of contemporary international relations, it remains to understand what all this has to do with the earthquake of the last hours, the answer is precisely in the factors connected to the duties of the State and to its survival.

Italy, put together by the ambitions of the Savoy and the needs of the French political balancing act, was confronted in its short history of the nation combined with a series of earthquakes disasters starting in Messina in 1908 (photo) and end, temporarily, in Valle del Tronto, without any government having done absolutely anything to prevent such events, yet the deaths have been thousands and the costs of the various reconstructions are at the limit of the imponderable, in this absurd disinterest the worm of the lack of recognition for the Italy of its status as a nation since no one has ever considered it necessary to develop an effective anti-seismic plan, starting from the culture and ending with the construction of the new or the consolidation of the old. Having said that, the concept of national interest is grafted in a perfect way, albeit outside the natural breeding ground of international relations, to be raped to the point of even being able to use its opposite to describe the Italian situation, that is, the total disinterest in the nation, here then a question, but if a ruling class does not protect its own territory in the first place, how can it be ready to confront itself in the challenges of the international forum, how can it win the drama of a war or a major economic conflict?

To answer we could list some sensational missed opportunities of this Italy since the distant 1866 (3a war of independence nda) up to the Libyan 2011 affair, passing through red and black terrorism and the mafias, without forgetting the attacks on the lira and the renunciation of the project south stream, these are just a few models to show how individual or small group interest is
prevailed and still prevails over the interest of the community and you want to tell us that we are good at managing emergencies and composed at metabolizing grief, the problem is that perhaps we are not yet ready to be a nation.
