France, Germany and the Atomic

10 September 2018, in the French online newspaper "L'Obs" the journalist Vincent Jauvert publishes an article with the least strange title: "La France va-t-elle partager sa bombe atomique avec l'Allemagne?", Or "France goes towards sharing the atomic bomb with Germany? "

Vincent Jauvert resumes and relaunches the news appeared the day before in an article by Jean-Dominique Merchet on "Opinion".

The argument, not new, is generally considered a taboo but in fact it is being discussed more and more often, especially since Donald Trump became the forty-fifth president of the United States of America. In fact it is not a mystery that Angela Merkel herself has questioned the reliability of the current American president, also due, but not limited to, his alleged ties with Russia.

Here is the sentence: "It is necessary for Germany to equip itself with the supreme weapon which is the ultimate guarantee of sovereignty: the thermonuclear bomb".

But at this point, Vincent Jauvert, remembers that to prevent Germany from carrying out the Bomba there is an old treatise of the 1970, known by most with the name of non-proliferation treaty.

The dilemma of Germany at this point is obvious, the bomb serves but the exit from the treaty could cost dear, you need to exercise a fancy effort and maybe use the famous "lateral thinking" to find a "creative" solution.

And lateral thinking leads one to think of those on the edge of Germany, or France. Why not share costs and become a partner of France in an increasingly expensive business?

It could be an idea, but it clashes with the German policy of the last decades that has always fought French military nuclear policy and probably also with the French military policy that would see its nuclear programs depend on the financing of a partner, although reliable, that in this matter it has always been seen if not as an "enemy", at least as a "competitor".

Vincent Jauvert concludes the article by providing that President Macron, having seen and considered the above, will only assure Merkel that in case of real need for nuclear use it will be his responsibility to try to discuss the issue with the German partner and neighbor, a declaration that is not very demanding and, probably, not satisfactory, but safer.

This, more or less, the meaning of the article.

But will it be like that?

As mentioned a little above Germany is strongly concerned about the American partner, considered now unreliable, Merkel has publicly declared in various forms the 28 May 2017 (G7), 10 May 2018 (Carlomagno Award); the 11 June 2018 (after the G7) and it seems almost useless to remember that NATO was created with the intent to keep the Russians away from Europe, the Americans in Europe and Germany under control in Europe.

But with the United States increasingly distant and the Russians increasingly strong, then why Germany can not go back to being strong?

Maybe with the help of France and its atomic bomb ...
