Operation Safe roads. "You look like the masters of the streets"

24/12/15

It happened yesterday on the street in Rome. I was walking for Christmas gifts in the center of Rome and I witnessed a scene that left me dismayed.

Near a military post, engaged in the "safe roads" operation, the guard was changing with the movement of a military vehicle. For a few moments a car queue was created. I was there and I heard most of the occupants rail against our military. An Italian, an elder, said aloud in a loud voice. of soldiers, "you seem to be the masters of the streets". I walked away seeing the poor boys with the stars that tried to speed up the maneuvers as if they were thieves.

On the same day I approached the area of Via XX Settembre to have a snack in one of the many bars near the Ministry of Defense. There were several soldiers in uniform who mingled with so many plainclothes boys, probably students. It was created a little in a row at the coffee counter and even on this occasion a young boy laughed with his friend and said: “but sti c…. of military ”.

In just one day two episodes of carelessness all Italian. Not to go back to being an esterophile, but in the Anglo-Saxon countries the military are always honored by compatriots and never derided.

I wondered why all this. Then I remembered the World Cup period. The only period in which all Italians feel Italian and display the Italian flag on their balconies. Almost always in the wrong direction. Even at an important shopping center I noticed the tricolor waving in the red, white and green sense. I was speechless.

This is to say that Italianness must be felt from within and must not come out only when the national football team plays. The soldiers engaged in peacekeeping missions abroad and in Italy to guarantee the security of the country deserve unconditional thanks. Instead of cursing for a momentary queue, it was enough to be silent and smile. Only because it's Christmas for them too. How many of them will spend the holidays, away from their loved ones, on the street or in the desert to make us live better?

The fault of all this is the lack of knowledge and the bold adversity towards the State and towards the institutions. The soldiers in uniform during the service represent an institution of the Republic. Inveire means, to rail against the State and the Republic.

Italians wake up, there is little left to really believe. In a world where we try to subvert everything and make the abnormal pass for normal and vice versa, our military, carabinieri, policemen and all those who have sworn loyalty to the Italian Republic to the extreme sacrifice are the only certainty.

The task of the political ruling class and also of the school is to teach respect for the symbols of the Republic. The Tricolore and the Armed Forces are the maximum expression of this.

Merry Christmas to all.
