We had asked the General Staff of the Air Force for permission to participate in the conference entitled "Asbestos and other carcinogens: the massacre of soldiers, more dead than in war" to be held in Florence on 15 day 2016.
We considered the matter of extreme interest to military personnel given that the Air Force Cocer has dealt with the issue of health protection in the workplace several times with particular reference also to asbestos.
The General Staff did not authorize the participation of the delegates to the aforementioned meeting as if discussing and investigating issues related to the health of the sick colleagues, also because of asbestos, were a private matter and not related to the competences of the military representation and therefore of service.
Once again all the criticalities and limitations of a representative body born in 1978 and no longer in step with the times emerge with the facts. The time has come for the Parliament to put a hand to a reform of the representative instrument in line with the dictates of the European Charter of Human Rights, which is capable of concretely protecting staff and which has real first and second level bargaining powers. .
