Defense Chief of Staff Enzo Vecciarelli took part, today in Nettuno, in the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Allied landing.
In addition to the Chief of Defense, the Ambassador of the United States of America participated in the celebrations at the monumental cemetery of Neptune, if Lewis Eisenberg, the extraordinary commissioner of Neptune, dr. Bruno Strati and the mayor of Anzio, dr. Candido De Angelis.
The celebration continued with the deposition of the laurel crowns to the monuments to the fallen in the municipalities of Nettuno and Anzio in the presence of local communities. During his speech, General Vecciarelli stressed the importance of the landing "Which constituted a choral effort for the freedom of the Italian people and for the rebirth of democracy in Italy and in Europe. The same feelings and the same ideals of those guys who landed on these shores seventy-five years ago - added the general - Today our men and women are active in 33 international missions in 23 different countries ".
Recalling the sacrifice of the soldiers who gave their contribution to break through the Nazi defenses and make a decisive turn in the "Italian campaign", the Chief of Staff of the Defense called for a renewed impulse to memory "Because to commemorate is to educate so that the past is teaching for the present and for the future. Of course today, as then, every soldier, sailor, aviere and carabiniere is ready to sacrifice his life for our country ".
