Last Saturday, during the offensive that would have broken the encirclement of the Aleppo rebel area, I came across a Syrian canal that was following the events live. A reporter (opening photo) chronicled a roundabout in Aleppo. It looked like any other city: traffic, buildings intact, people walking around.
I recalled the meeting I had six months ago at a bar in Tartus with a burly UNHCR official. He told me he was about to reach Aleppo.
"Aleppo!" - I had stared in surprise.
"One of the most beautiful cities in Syria. There are the best restaurants and I can't wait to sit in one of those Armenians: they eat very well! ”, The answer.
The amazement at hearing something described that I had been led to consider "Hiroshima" as if they were "castles" (a suburb of Rome renowned for its cuisine) had led me to ask about the devastation.
"But no, the clashes happen only in a neighborhood. And he is well surrounded by the army ... ".
You will understand why, after a few days, hearing a journalist tell "a destroyed city" (in front of a collapsed building) had caused me some ... "opposition". A sacrosanct sentiment even in the simple case of having to look for the scoop, the bombshell, at all costs.
What happens today leads me to experience the events with a new fear: the fraud!
That the conquest of Aleppo is one of the fundamental steps for the solution of the cursed conflict that has already claimed the blood of hundreds of thousands of Syrians is established.
That it has to be said that the fighting in recent days has brought 2 million people to their knees worries me. He does so because by amalgamating images of rubble (image on the right) with the words of the Pope (he has been repeating them in the wind for 5 years ...) he advocates and justifies the request for a truce, in addition to yet another useless United Nations intervention.
The questions I ask myself are now the following:
"If the decisive battle for the reconquest of Aleppo is underway, with a mass of terrorists surrounded, who should the truce be useful to?"
"If a Syrian channel makes direct appearances that seem from the square below our house, while the Western media use images and photos of a devastated city (but - let's remember - inhabited by TWO MILLION inhabitants ...), what is the information of the regime ? "
I am reminded of the news of a few months ago on the "death of the last pediatrician in Aleppo". Dear readers, 2 million inhabitants - in a country famous for the huge number of doctors - and only one pediatrician? !!!
